Expecting their first child, frank has to make a plan to get his wife to the hospital through three feet of snow while a storm rages. Frank yokes the oxen, then wraps his wife in a blanket and settles her on the drag as they walk three hours through the storm behind the oxen.

The story tells of the exciting events of that walk.

About the Author

Kathy Salanitro and her husband built their house in 1981 in Gilford, New Hampshire and started rising and training oxen. In 2004, Kathy trained oxen as therapy oxen. She started Ox-K Farm Discovery Center, which is dedicated to enriching children and young people’s lives by guiding and encouraging them to develop self-discipline, patience and self-confidence through interaction with oxen. Kathy has worked with children of all ages and with many challenges. She has witnessed their growth of self-confidence while interacting with the oxen. In 2011, Kathy won the title and crown of Ms. New Hampshire Senior America, her platform and talent was making a difference in children’s lives with oxen. While Kathy was in isolation recovering from cancer treatment, she decided to put the time to good use and began to write a series of books featuring her oxen. Kathy is the author and illustrator of The Oxen and the Spiders. The Oxen and the Baby is the second book in her series of oxen books that give examples of life lessons.
